Affinity Bank steps up to aid Meals on Wheels
Ventura, CA - Upon learning that Meals on Wheels was in desperate
need of funds in order to continue delivering meals to homebound
seniors, Affinity Bank quickly came to the rescue.
Michael R. McGuire, president and CEO of Affinity Bank said, "After
hearing from one of the Bank's directors that Meals on Wheels was
in dire need of $10,000 in order to continue operating, the Bank's
Community Reinvestment Committee quickly reviewed and approved the
donation."
Mr. McGuire added, "This is particularly gratifying since
we are aware that many non-profits are experiencing shortfalls in
funding due to contributions being redirected to support the families
of victims of the 9-11 tragedy."
Mr. McGuire presented Victoria Herrera, Executive Director of Meals
on Wheels, with a check for $10,000 on April 19, 2002. Ms. Herrera
said that with this donation and a pledge from an anonymous donor
to match up to $10,000, they have received enough funding to continue
operation until other corporate donations arrive. Meals on Wheels
(Ventura County Commission on Nutrition) is a non-profit organization
dedicated to providing hot meals to seniors, disabled and homebound
citizens, regardless of their ability to pay the $4.25 cost, in
Ventura, Oxnard, Port Hueneme, El Rio, and Santa Paula. The hot
noon-time meals are delivered daily, including weekends and/or holidays.
Affinity Bank's community investment policy provides for a portion
of the Bank's pre-tax profit to be invested supporting affordable
housing for low/moderate income people, supporting the community
services for persons with special needs, providing economic development
opportunities to its communities.
